2 Traffic cops suspended

SAMBA, Aug 29: Two traffic cops in Samba district were placed under suspension today by SSP Traffic, Rural M L Kaith for not wearing body cameras while challaning the violators of traffic rules.
Kaith took the prompt action after the video showing them taking bribe went viral on social media. The SSP said during preliminary verification and visual of Video clip, it has been reported that HC Ashwani Kumar No 05/JTR, PID No: EXJ 945686 and Sgt Roop Lal No: 119/T PID No EXJ-006725 who were deployed with DTI Samba while performing their duties have neither used the body worn cameras nor there was any presence of Challaning Officer on the spot which made their action suspicious.
The SSP, while taking serious cognisance of their act and terming it as highly objectionable amounting to indiscipline and dereliction of duties being members of a disciplined force placed both of them under suspension with immediate effect.
The SSP has also ordered a Departmental Inquiry against them and DySP Traffic, Samba -Kathua has been asked to conduct the probe into the matter. He has also been asked to submit the report to the SSP Traffic, Rural within three days.
Both the suspended officials have also been attached with the Enquiry Officer for facing the Departmental probe.
The video showed the two Traffic cops stopping a vehicle on the roadside after an apparent chase and allegedly taking money from the driver before leaving the spot.
