210 ultras get monetary incentives

JAMMU, Mar 26: State Government today revealed that it has provided monetary incentives in the form of cash and stipend to 210 surrendered militants while as 27 of them have been brought under security cover under various categories.
These revelations came from the Government at a time when there has already been resentment over expenditure of over crores of rupees on the security related expenditure on the Hurriyat leaders and other separatists.
“Since 1990 up to February 2013, 4081 militants have surrendered in the State”, Minister In-charge Home Department disclosed in the Legislative Assembly in the written reply to the question of People’s Democratic Party MLA, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat.
The Minister further said that 210 surrendered militants have been provided monetary incentives admissible under the Surrender Policies in the form of cash and stipend. “Out of these 210 surrendered militants, 200 have been accorded benefit under the Surrender Policy of 2004 while as remaining 10 have been benefitted under the Surrender Policy of 1997”, he added.
According to the Minister, 27 surrendered militants have been brought under security cover under various categories.
In response to question regarding cases against them, the Minister said that 432 cases were registered against the surrendered militants out of which 364 were challaned, 9 cases were closed as untraced and 59 cases are under investigation. However, the Minister didn’t divulge the details of these surrendered militants in view of the sensitivity of the issue.
