21st District Water Skiing C’ship commences at Ranjit Sagar Dam

KATHUA, Dec 26: The 21st District Water Skiing Championship commenced at the scenic Ranjit Sagar Dam in Basohli, here today. The event, organized by the District Water Sports Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, is scheduled from December 26 to 28, 2024. It has brought together top athletes from across the district to compete in categories such as slalom, trick skiing and wakeboarding.
The opening ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including chief guest Thakur Darshan Singh, MLA Basohli and guest of honour Col. Mahan Singh, DCC Chairman, Kathua. Other notable attendees included Anil Kumar Thakur (ADC, Basohli), Ajit Singh (CEO, BBDA), and Baljinder Pal Singh (Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu).
In his address, Thakur Darshan Singh stressed the importance of water sports events like this in promoting sportsmanship and positioning Basohli as a prominent water sports destination. He highlighted the potential of Ranjit Sagar Dam as not just a natural treasure but also a platform for young athletes.
Baljinder Pal Singh spoke about the advancements in water sports infrastructure, citing the Water Sports Centre at Ranjit Sagar Dam and the Khelo India Centre for Rowing as key components. He expressed the vision of transforming the dam into a hub for water sports excellence, hosting national-level competitions in the future. The championship promises intense competition over the next three days, with athletes showcasing their skills.
