JAMMU, Feb 29: 21st edition of the Aviation Conference hosted by Indian Oil Corporation (Indian Oil) commenced with participation of over 100 delegates from India and various other countries representing airline companies, airline statutory bodies, defence services, airline equipment companies and airport operators.
Inaugurating the two-day event, BS Canth, Director, Marketing, Indian Oil, emphasized the challenges and expectations of various stakeholders of aviation industry from Indian Oil. While highlighting the challenges and constraints being faced by the expected growth in air passenger traffic, he stated that we expect aviation business in India to be on a high growth trajectory during the coming decade. He added that increasing consumer expectations and growing pressure to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency, will drive the strategy for the Aviation sector.
Canth said that Indian Oil, with over 63 per cent of the country’s aviation market share, is focused on modernizing its existing infrastructure and expanding it to Tier-II and Tier-III cities by augmenting storage capacities and introducing state-of-the-art dispensers and refuellers in its fleet. He reiterated the commitment of Indian Oil to maintain the best quality standards in supplying fuels to all stakeholders.
Vinod Hejmadi, Director (F), Air India, in his special address, emphasized the renewed optimism in the aviation business caused by the recent fall in world crude oil prices. He stated that with the crude hovering at $30, while aviation companies and passengers may feel happy, Oil Exporting countries are feeling the pinch. They are surviving only because of the huge back up reserves they had built over the years. However, nobody can predict how long this situation will continue. He spoke about the volatility of crude oil prices and asked the oil companies to develop technology to tap into the huge gas reserves.
Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, CEO, Go Airlines (India) Limited in his address said that India is the fastest growing major economy in the medium-to-long-term and is poised at becoming a major air travel market.
Later, BS Canth released a compendium of the technical papers being presented at the two-day conference, by acclaimed experts in their respective domains.
Earlier, TS Khwaja, Executive Director (Aviation), Indian Oil welcomed the delegates.
