22nd J&K-UT Athletics Championship-2024 concludes

JAMMU, Aug 21: The 22nd J&K UT Athletics Championship-2024 culminated with a vibrant closing ceremony and prize distribution event held at the Synthetic Athletics Track, Jammu University. Organized by the J&K Amateur Athletics Association under the auspices of the Athletics Federation of India, the championship was conducted in collaboration with Jammu University, the Department of Youth Services and Sports, and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council.
The two-day championship witnessed the participation of over 1,400 athletes from all 20 districts of the Union Territory. The event was graced by prominent guests, including Mohd. Hanief, Chief Sports Officer of J&K Sports Council, Rajeev Sharma, Member of J&K Sports Council, and Sunil Sharma, Chief Accounts Officer of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, who distributed medals and certificates to the victorious athletes. Suneel Mahajan, President of the J&K Amateur Athletics Association and Sharat Chander Singh, Secretary General of the J&K Amateur Athletics Association and Organizing Secretary of the championship were also present there.
Among the athletes, Abrar Choudhary was honoured as the Best Athlete in the Men’s Category, while Janvi Sharma was declared the Best Athlete in the Girls’ Category.
The championship featured several competitive events. In the Boys’ Under-14 60m final, Saqib Mukhtar from Baramulla secured first place, followed by Yuvraj Singh and Gurveer Singh from Jammu. In the Boys’ Under-14 High Jump, Vikas Gupta from Jammu claimed the top spot with a jump of 1.35 meters.
Other notable performances included Partap Singh from Rajouri, who won the Boys’ Under-16 100m final and Tawseef Nazir from Baramulla, who triumphed in the Boys’ Under-16 2000m race.
In the Women’s category, Suvidha Sarin from Jammu won the 100m event, while Fanja Devi from Reasi clinched the 200m title. Shamshad Bano from Reasi dominated both the 1500m and 3000m events, further showcasing the athletic prowess of the region.
The competition concluded with team events, where the J&K Police A team excelled in both the Men’s 4x100m Relay and Boys’ Under-20 4x400m Relay. The event was meticulously managed by a panel of technical officials under the supervision of Nirmal Singh, Chairman of the Technical Committee.
