JAMMU, Jan 20: 23rd J&K UT Taekwondo Championship, organised by J&K Taekwondo Association (JKTA), commenced at Indoor Complex Bhagwati Nagar, here today.
The championship was declared open by president of JKCSNGEU, Rouf Ahmad and Fit India Ambassador, Kuldeep Handoo who graced the inaugural ceremony as chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Both the special guests were accompanied by vice president of the Association, Nissar Hussain.
A good number of around 200 participants, representing 16 districts of J&K, reported along with their officials yesterday and underwent weigh to pave way for the preliminary round of the competition today. The bouts are being conducted under the technical team led by Atul Pangotra (International player/coach/referee) along with qualified referees.
Advocate Sheeraz Alam, Tariq Hussain (president DDTA), Junaid Ali Khan (VP DDTA) and organising secretary, Anuj Sharma were also present.
President of the Association said that the Association has taken utmost care of the SOPs and guidelines of the Government in view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation. Special attention has been paid to the boarding and lodging of the participants and their officials, he added.
