JAMMU, Mar 15: Fourteen players among 24 including a sports correspondent were awarded with S. Rangil Singh Award for Sports Excellence by the J&K Olympic Association for the year 2019-20 at Amar Singh Club, here today.
JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta was the chief guest, while Brigadier Anil Gupta Member Administration J&K Cricket Association was guest of honour and Ashok Khajuria former MLA was the special guest of event along with Paramjeet Singh Olympian, Arjuna Awardee and Asian Games Silver Medallist.
The awardees were honoured with a cash prize of Rs, 21000, memento, certificate, Olympic cap and Olympic Necktie by the chief guest, guest of honour and special guests.
The players were Rakesh Kumar (Para-Olympic Archer), Ram Singh (Mountaineer), Radhey Kumar (International Athlete), Rajesh Anand (Int’l Roller Skater), Abdul Samad (Cricketer), Mohd Shafi Nari (Footballer), Arushi Kotwal (Chess), Adil Mohi-ud-Din Bhat (Kayaking and Canoeing), Mohd Tariq (Fencing), Suvidha Sarin (Roll Ball), Tejpal Kour (Gymnast), Abhinav Kunda (Athlete), lqbal Singh (Basketball) and Gourav Sharma (Handball), while Sanjeev Sharma-a Sports journalist.
The coaches were Bhupinder Singh Tirthi (Kho-Kho), Kuldeep Kumar Vedwan (Archery), Ramesh Kumar Sharma (Athletics), Om Parkash (Wrestling), Rajesh Virdhy (Shooting), Rachna Jamwal (Fencing), Anil Gupta (Yoga), Suraj Bhan Singh (Judo)and Pawan Kumar Sharma (Hockey).
Dushyant Sharma, hony secretary general JKOA presented welcome address, while president of the Association, Prof Dr Ashutosh Sharma explained the functions and achievements of J&K Olympic Association (JKOA) formed in 1972 with S. Rangil Singh as president and Sharma as general secretary.
He also gave a brief account of the life of S. Rangil Singh, a highly educated (Bar at Law from London) dedicated, sincere, helping hand and down to earth administrator who remained a Cabinet Minister in J&K State. The S. Rangil Singh Award for Sports Excellence was instituted after the sad demise of S. Rangil Singh, who remained president of J&K Olympic Association from 1972 to till his death in 2017.
The chief guest and guest of honour as well as Ashok Khajuria and Parmajeet Singh also spoke on the occasion and promised to render all help and cooperation for the promotion of games and Sports.
