24 LPU students to represent India in Paris Olympics

JALANDHAR, July 26: Lovely Professional University (LPU) is celebrating a historic achievement as 24 of its students are set to represent India at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This remarkable feat means that LPU students make up 21% of the Indian Olympic team, showcasing the university’s dedication to excellence in both Sports and Education.
Among the notable athletes from LPU are Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo 2020 gold medalist in men’s javelin throw, and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, a prominent weightlifter in the Women’s 49 kg category. The Indian hockey team will also feature several LPU students, including captain Harmanpreet Singh and players Hardik Singh, Shamsher Singh, and others, all pursuing BA degrees. Additionally, LPU will be represented by prominent boxers like Lovlina Borgohain and Jasmine, wrestlers Anshu Malik and Vinesh Phogat, and shooter Arjun Singh Cheema, among others.
Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, expressed immense pride, stating, “Having 24 students in the 2024 Olympics is a remarkable achievement. LPU’s focus on sports excellence has enabled our students to excel at the highest levels.”
LPU’s significant investment in sports infrastructure and scholarships has been pivotal in achieving this milestone. In the last Olympics also 13 LPU students represented India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in javelin, wrestling, hockey, and athletics. From these 12 students brought 3 medals including 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. With the number now increasing to 24 for Paris 2024, LPU continues to set new benchmarks in sports excellence.
