24th Senior National Fencing Championship concludes

JAMMU, Dec 22: 24th Senior National Fencing Championship-2013, men and women, concluded here today.
The 5-day sports event was organized by J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
As many as 32 teams from across the country, comprising of 800 players, participated in the event.
Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad was the chief guest.
Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ajit Kumar Sahu, National general secretary of Fencing Association, Mr Rana, State president, MJ Sharma besides members of the Association were present on the occasion.
J&K drubbed SSCB in the sabre team event final to claim gold.
The overall Championship went to SSCB, while Manipur stood at second spot and the third place was bagged by the hosts Jammu and Kashmir.
Later, the Minister gave away prizes and trophies among the winner and runner-up teams besides the players who exhibited good performance in the championship.
Mian Altaf and Madan Lal Sharma while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of the games in day to life. They appreciated the efforts of the J&K State Sports Council and the organizing Committee of this championship for conducting this event in the State.
