25 shops gutted in inferno

JAMMU, Sept 30: At least 25 shops were gutted in a devastating fire in Gumat area of the winter capital.
“At least 25 shops of electronics and garments were completely gutted in an inferno that broke out during wee hours today due to short circuit in Gumat area in the heart of the city”, a police official said here.
On receiving information, police party from City Police Station rushed to the spot and fire tenders were pressed in to service to douse the flames.
“The fire broke at 1.50 am and fire tenders along with the teams of fire fighters rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident, spokesman said, adding, that no injury or casualty in the incident has been reported.
The shops were completely damaged in the blaze, he said, adding that the exact loss could not be ascertained immediately.
An official of Fire and Emergency Services Department said that 8 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. After hectic efforts for around six hours, the fire was brought under control, he added.
A case has been registered at City Police Station and investigation started.
