26th J&K-UT Taekwondo C’ship commences

JAMMU, Feb 15: The two day long 26th J&K-UT Taekwondo Championship 2023-24 commenced at Indoor Sports Complex Bhagwati Nagar here today, Jammu.
The Championship is being held under the emblem of My Youth My Pride and was organized by J&K Taekwondo Association under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India and J&K Sports Council (JKSC).
The first day witnessed a massive combative skill show between the Sub-Junior and Cadet Athlete’s in both male and female categories. More than 700 players participated in different weight categories from across J&K.
Ranjeet Kalra, Member J&K Sports Council was Chief Guest alongwith Dr SM Bali Senior Vice President, JKTA), Ashok Kumar (Para Indian Taekwondo Coach), Tarun Sharma (IC Culture Cell BJYM), Chandeep Singh (World Taekwondo Medallists & State Awardee) were also present on the occasion.
The championship organising committee was led by Rajesh Pangotra President JKTA.  In the referee panel, Zaheer Abbas Khan (NR), Vinod Kumar (NR), Brinder Singh Manhas (NR), Kamlesh Kumar (NR), Pawan Kumar (NR), Nittin Singh Rathore (NR), Tashi Tundup (NR), Pushp Thakur (NR), Shanaz Parveen (NR) and includes J&K Referee Dushyant Kapta, Rudhra Partap Singh, Sumit Sharma, Suhel Ahmed Khan, Hashim Majeed and Sonam Chospal.
The medallist players of Cadet and Junior girls age groups will represent J&K-UT in the upcoming Phase-2 of 1st Khelo India Women’s Taekwondo League 2023-24 from February 21 to 24, 2024 at KD Singh Babu Indoor Stadium, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, organized by Uttar Pradesh Taekwondo Association, under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India & Khelo India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
