2880 kanals of Wakaf land under illegal occupation in Jammu: Veeri

SRINAGAR, Oct 12: Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri informed the Upper House that 2880 kanal and 4 marlas of Wakaf land/properties are presently under illegal occupation in Jammu.
Giving details of the land under illegal occupation, the Minister said that the 526 kanal and 10 marlas of land is under illegal occupation of Government departments, 1382 kanal 19 marlas under defence and 970 kanal 15 marlas under locals/private persons. He said 112 kanals of Wakaf Land is under illegal occupation of different persons/government departments at Kunjwani, Jammu.
The Minister further said that Masjid Sharief Chak Jaffar, which has been declared as State Protected Monument by the Department of Tourism and Culture was opened and restored for prayers in the year 2003. He further added that after few months the Masjid Sharief was locked by the Police and is not being used for prayers due to interference of inhabitants of the village.
The Minister said this while replying to short notice question of Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri in the Legislative Council today.
