AMRITSAR, Mar 18: Superintendent of Police Jugraj Singh (Additional DCP Crime Amritsar), today inaugurated 2nd All India Doctors Premier League and T 20 Day Night Cricket Championship, sponsored by Amandeep Group of Hospitals, Deep Waters & ADA at Amandeep Cricket Ground, here today.
About eight teams of doctors including Cricheroes, Bengaluru, Amritsar Avengers, Hyderabad, Hoshiarpur, Manipal, Ludhiana and Delhi were drawn from across the India participated in this four-day tournament, which is being organized by IMA & IDA.
Opening matches were played between Delhi & Hyderabad & Manipal & Bengaluru.
Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat and scored 176 runs by losing four wickets in 20 overs, whereas Delhi team managed to score 155 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 21 runs.
The chief guest said that the COVID-19 pandemic as an illness has brought in hardships, both at the individual level and society at large, these times are challenging for everyone including the medical fraternity. “This tournament is a stress buster for all and such kind of sporting events should be organized regularly,” he added.
“We are conducting the Cricket tourney exclusively for doctors in recognition for their tireless work during the COVID pandemic. They were relentless in providing service to poor patients and save lives of many,” said Dr Amandeep Kour, president IMA, adding that the cricket tournament would provide doctors much needed break and also provide recreational activity.
Dr Shahbaz, Director Amandeep Group, Dr Amit Bhootra, Dr Sanjeev Sharma (general secretary IDA) and Dr Manas Madan were also present during the event.
