3 arrested with 70 kg poppy straw

JAMMU, Nov 17: Police today recovered 70 kilograms poppy straw and arrested three persons from Kunjwani area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gangyal police station.
A police spokesman said that, police team from Gangyal police station laid a naka at Kunjwani and intercepted two trucks bearing registration numbers JK03D-7912 and JK13A-3933.
Police recovered 40 kilograms of poppy straw from one truck and 30 kilograms of poppy straw from another truck, which was meant to be sold outside the State.
He said that the arrested persons have been identified as Shabir Ahmed, son of Abdul Salam, of Rashipura, tehsil Awantipora, district Pulwama, Kashmir, Asif Majid, son of Abdul Majid of Vanpoo, district Anantnag, Kashmir and Mehraj Ahmed Butt, son of Ali Mohammad Butt of Rashipura, tehsil Awantipora, district Pulwama, Kashmir.
Cases under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act have been registered at Gangyal police station and investigation started.
Polcie team led by HC Vinod Kumar made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Gangyal Inspector Arun Jamwal and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
