JAMMU, May 29: The Bee Enn General Hospital Jammu performed rare intestinal surgery on a 3-day-old baby here today.
A BEGH spokesman said that the baby was born at Kathua with persistent vomiting and signs of respiratory failure. The condition of baby was very critical and the parents decided to shift the baby to Bee Enn General Hospital for advanced treatment and diagnosis. Dr Anumodan Gupta, new born and intensive care specialist and Dr Rajnish Kumar, super specialist Pediatric Surgeon evaluated the baby and it turned out to be a case of Duodenal Atresia, a rare intestinal disorder.
The challenge to operate the baby on a ventilator and with low BP was accepted by Dr Rajnish Kumar and anesthesia was provided by Dr Anuradha Bali, Neonatal Anesthesiologist. Post-operative care by neonatal team was done meticulously by Dr Anumodan and his team at BEGH to perfection.
“The chances of survival were slim, as the baby’s heart was not working properly and baby had low blood pressure along with no respiration on its own. However, the Hospital took this case as a challenge and began the treatment,” Dr Anumodan said.
In this rare case, the team of doctors in Bee Enn General Hospital saved the baby boy born to the Kathua couple, weighing just 3 kilograms. After 13 days of intensive care, the recovered newborn has been discharged and handed over to the mother.
The Neonatal ICU at Bee Enn General Hospital continues to provide essential care, during corona pandemic.
