3-day training workshop for coaches, basketball players begins

SRINAGAR, Nov 13: Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) in collaboration with the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India and the International Committee of the Red Cross started its three-day training workshop for coaches, referees and Wheelchair Basketball players
Master coaches, Lee Simon who is the general secretary of WBFI and Louis George Meprath (Chief Coach of National team) from Wheelchairs Basketball Federation of India (WBFI) are imparting the training.
Around 40 male and female coaches, referees and players are attending the said training workshop. The master coaches who are imparting training to coaches, referees and wheelchair Basketball players have knowledge and specialization in the said sport.
VMS said that the aim and objective to conduct this workshop is to train the wheelchair user players fully, so that they can compete and perform well at National and International levels.
The event is supported by the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). On the occasion, Farooq Ahmad Khan Advisor to Lieutenant Governor J&K UT graced the occasion on the 2nd day of the workshop as chief guest.
He interacted with players, trainers and appreciated the efforts being put in by the VMS towards the rehabilitation, upliftment and welfare of persons with disabilities.
The Advisor promised all the possible help from the Government for the well-being and welfare of persons with disabilities. “It is our strength now to coach the wheelchair basketball team locally after attending the 3 days hands-on training said “Insha, one of the participants said.
Secretary VMS Prof. Masooda Yasin presented the vote of thanks to chief guest, master coaches and all the participants of the workshop.
