JAMMU, May 20: Three J&K Judokas were among the Indian Deaflympics contingent who were invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on May 21.
These three J&K’s Judokas who wrapped up its campaign in the 24th Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil with three top positions including Rakhshinda Mehak achieved 5th position (below 78kg), while Rakesh Singh clinched 7th position (below 60kg) and Vishal Khajuria secured 7th position (below 66kg), whereas India contingent won 8 gold, one silver and 8 bronze medals during the Deaflympics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian contingent for its best ever performance at the recently concluded Deaflympics, and said he will be hosting them at his residence on May 21.
“Congrats to the Indian contingent for the best ever performance at the recently concluded Deaflympics! Every athlete of our contingent is an inspiration for our fellow citizens. I will be hosting the entire contingent at my residence on the morning of the 21st,” Modi tweeted on Tuesday.
It is pertinent to mention here that Rakhshinda Mehak had also won a bronze medal at the World Deaf Judo Championship in Versailles, France in October 2021.
All these Judokas are trained by Sports Council’s senior coach Suraj Bhan Singh.
Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gull, general secretary Gulshan Drabu of All J&K Deaf Sports Association and general secretary G. Suresh Kumar of AISCD appreciated the performance of deaf Judokas of J&K UT and their coach in the Deaflympics.
“It is a matter of pride for Jammu and Kashmir that three Judokos were invited by the Prime Minister at his residence,” they said.
