Over 300 run to raise awareness on drugs abuse

POONCH, Mar 31: Over 300 persons including students, youngsters, prominent citizens, media persons, bar members, civil, police and army officers took part in a Marathon organized by Poonch Police under Civic Action Programme (CAP) . The event started at 8 am and the entire stretch from Khaneter to Sports Stadium Poonch was occupied by the enthusiastic runners and spectators. The main motto behind the event was to raise awareness about drug menace.
Flagging off the marathon in the morning from Khaneter Commander 6 sector Prashant halgiri who was the chief guest on the occassion,said, “The marathon is the voice of the people against drugs and certainly is a commendable initiative by poonch police.
Dy commander 120 brigade Mohit Seth , Col Rajesh Rana ,CO 39 RR Mukundan, ADC Poonch Gurvinder Singh were the guest of honour.
SSP Poonch Rajiv Pandey, DySP Hqtr Poonch Mohan Sharma, DySP Ops Saleem Bhatt, DySP Daleep Singh, Principal Girls Hr Sec SeshMahal Narinder Suri were also present on the occasion.
The marathon culminated at Sports Stadium Poonch, where SSP Poonch interacted with the participants and said JKP is committed towards creating a better society and this run against drug abuse is a step in that direction.
The winners were awarded in a simple but impressive function held at Sports Stadium Poonch.
In the age group of below 40, the winner was Zaffar Iqbal, while Shoaib Mushtaq and Gurvinder Pal Singh secured second and third position respectively.
Above 40 years age group Col. Mohit Sehat, Major. Dushant and Jagjit Singh came first, second and third respectively.
Among Girls, Menakshi bali secured first position, second Farzana Kouser and third Razia Kouser, consolation prizes to Mridhu Sharma and Nazia Akhter.
