JAMMU, Nov 3: The J&K Fencing Association (JKFA), in affiliation with the Fencing Association of India (FAI), held the selection trials for the 32nd Junior National Fencing Championship at the Jammu University Fencing Academy, here. Over 70 young fencers, both boys and girls, from districts including Ramban, Samba, Jammu, Poonch, Doda and Udhampur showcased their skills, aiming to represent Jammu and Kashmir at the National Championship in Patna, Bihar, scheduled from December 2 to 5.
The trials were organized under the expertise of the technical committee, featuring Bhisham Singh Slathia (NIS-qualified international referee), Ranchan Sabarwal (international fencer, CC-qualified), Javed Ahmed Choudhary (international fencer, CC-qualified), and Gourav Thakur (CC-qualified).
The committee identified top-performing athletes across multiple categories, ensuring a strong contingent for the upcoming national event. In the Boys’ Epee event, Sufyan Waheed Sohil from Ramban took first place, followed by Sohit Thakur from Reasi, Yuvraj Singh from Jammu, and Ranvir Singh from Jammu. Vatsal Gandotra from Jammu topped the Boys’ Sabre event, with Harshit Kohli, Amish Sharma and Vaibhav Abrol securing subsequent positions. In the Boys’ Foil category, Manjot from Udhampur claimed the top spot, with Shresth Dogra, Aanzar, and Aadhar Khajuria from Jammu as runners-up.
The Girls’ Epee category saw Yashassvi from Jammu taking first place, followed by Diksha from Udhampur, Twinkle, and Muskan, both from Jammu. Simarleen Kour from Udhampur led the Girls’ Foil event, with Suhani Singh, Vanya Gupta from Jammu and Ashwaithie from Udhampur as top contenders.
The selected fencers are now set to represent Jammu and Kashmir on a national platform, where they will compete against some of the best young talents from across the country.
