POONCH, Oct 20: The 34th District Open Table Tennis Championship was inaugurated by Dr. Jasbir Singh, Principal of Government Degree College Poonch, at the newly constructed indoor hall within the premises of the Sports Stadium Poonch. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining sportsmanship among the players as they compete in the championship.
On the first day of the championship, the first and second rounds of matches were held across various categories, including Cadet, Sub Junior, Junior, and Men’s events. This prestigious championship is organized under the aegis of the J&K Table Tennis Association, with the selected players advancing to the state championship scheduled for next month in Jammu.
The matches were conducted under the supervision of officials Narinder Singh PEM, Davinder Dabur, Sanjay Raina and Sandeep Luthra. In the Cadet final, Yuvi Luthra triumphed over Bilawal with scores of 11-9, 11-8, and 11-9. The tournament also saw exciting matches in other categories, including Arushika Dabur defeating Sonakshi Suri in the Under-15 girls’ final and Shivam overcoming Mashook in the Men’s Singles.
