JAMMU, Feb 20: 35th Jammu District Badminton Champion was inaugurated by Jammu City and District Badminton Association, here today.
Kiran Wattal, former Secretary J&K Sports Council & former Commissioner JMC was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony at newly renovated Badminton Hall at MA Stadium.
About 200 players participated in the championship.
In under-19 boys, Vikas Bhat, Sahil Malgotra, Rupal Tandon, Shourya Jasrotia, Keshav Manhas, Shivam Parashar and Parul Mehra won single by defeating Shub Dubey, Mushra Bhat, Sagar Kachroo, Sachin Koul, Ragav Pandita, Deepak Kalla, Suraj Dhar and Vikas Bhat respectively, whereas Akash Koul, Ayush Jhakur, Shaurya, Mayank Razdan, Sarthak, Ojas Suri, Sant Singh and Satyam Tandan trounced Nitish Kumar, Anil Pandita, Janu, RohitKoul, Pehush, Aditya, Ayush Tikoo and Shiven Prashar in single matches respectively.
In Double U/19 boys, Ojas and Dheeraj beatAyush and Sourav and Parul and Sarthak trounced Sahil and Aditya.
First time entry was provided to players of Migrant Township Jagti in the District level Badminton championship by the organisers. All participants from Jagti Township were honoured with the special welcome gifts by the organisers of the championship.
Dr. OD Sharma, vice president of Badminton Association of India & chairman Badminton Association of Jammu & Kashmir, Col D V Sharma vice president, Anil Gaind treasurer of Jammu city & District Badminton Association, Pintoo ji president Global Solace and many other were present during inaugural ceremony.
