BARAMULLA, Oct 29: The 3rd J&K State Handball Championship began at Showket Ali Stadium Baramulla today in both senior men and women section, here.
The Championship is being organized by J&K Handball Association, under the patronage of Dr S M Bali, president J&K Handball Association, under the chairmanship of Ashwani Kumar Raina, general secretary, J&K Handball Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Krishan Lal, treasurer, Mohd Ashraf Parray Joint Secretary and Sanjeev Jamwal, Executive Member of J&k Handball Association.
Abdul Gani Malik, Joint Director Planning Baramulla was the chief guest on the occasion and Hakim Abdul Aziz, District Coordinator Nehru Yuva Kendra, Baramulla was the guest of honour in the opening ceremony of the State Championship.
About 200 players of the different districts of the State are participating in the tournament The matches were officiated by Kesar Wani, Nissar Ahamed Sheikh and Tariq Wani
The First match in men’s section was played between District Budgam and District Kathua in which Kathua defeated Budgam by 19-8 goals. The main scorer for the Kathua was Harish who scored 7 goals, while for Budgan, Arshed scored 5 magnificent goals.
The second match in men’s section was played between District Poonch and District Bandipora in which Poonch defeated Bandipora by 19-3 goals..
The main scorer from Poonch was Yaar Mohmmad with 11 goals and the main scorer from Bandipora was Showkait who netted 2 goals. Imtaz of Poonch also played well.
The third match in men’s section was played between District Srinagar and District Udhampur in which Udhampur defeated Srinagar by 18-11 goals. Sanjay Kumar was the main scorer from Udhampur, who scored 8 goals, while the main scorer from Srinagar was Kamran who scored 5 goals.
