3rd Police Martyrs’ NZ T20 Cup gets underway

IGP Dilbag Singh alongwith DIG JP Singh and DDC Kathua Zahida Khan inaugurating T-20 Cricket Tournament at Kathua on Thursday.

KATHUA, Dec 20: The 3rd Police Martyrs’ Memorial North Zone T-20 Cricket Championship 2012-13, jointly organized by District Police Kathua and Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua got an extravagant start at District Sports Stadium, here today.
The function started with paying of floral tribute to Martyrs’ of J&K Police, who sacrificed their lives for the motherland while performing their duties. IGP Jammu Dilbag Singh, DIG JKS Range JP Singh and District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kathua, Zahida Parveen Khan inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp and laying wreath at the Martyrs’ Gallery.
Atul Kumar Goel, SSP Kathua presented welcome address and dwelt on length regarding the objectives of the championship.
IGP Jammu in his address stressed on the need for better Police-Public relations and congratulated the Shaheed Welfare Committee and District Police Kathua for taking such initiatives which served the dual purpose of better Police-Public relations and honour to Martyrs’ families. The inaugural ceremony was graced by cultural programme by small children of DAV School Lacchipur . The families of the Martyrs were also invited on the occasion. The participating children got certificates from the IGP Jammu. Large number of civilians, Prominent citizens and Senior Officers of Police Department were present at the function.
The opening match was played between NCC Jammu and MPCC Haryana which was won by MPCC Haryana. The man of the match was awarded to Amar of MPCC Haryana for his knock of 62 runs in 56 balls. NCC Jammu scored 135 runs in 20 overs which was successfully chased by MPCC Haryana in the 19th over.
