GULMARG, Mar 14: Ghulam Mohd Wani secured three medals in different events and declared Best Ski Mountaineer, whereas in sprits mens event Ghulam Mohammad Wani got first place while Ishfaq Ahmad Mir remained 2nd and Tanveer Ahmad clinched third place in 3rd Ski Mountaineering Championship which was concluded here today.
In individual race, Gulam Mohammad, Zubair Ahmad, Tanveer bagged first three positions respectively, whereas in the vertical race, Gulam Mohammad, Zubair Ahmad, Ishfaq Ahmad stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and in vertical race women, Manika Gunjyal of Uttarakhand got first place while Kriya of MP secured second place
The chief guest on the occasion was Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation who witnessed the closing ceremony and distributed the prizes amongst the winners. He congratulated the organisers for conducting a successful tournament during these challenging weather/pandemic times and hailed the sportsman spirit and the efforts put in by the participants.
Kuldip Patil, president of Ski Mountaineering Association India (SMAI), Santosh Pal, technical director SMAI, Abid Ahmad Bhat, president JK Ski Mountaineering Association, Fayaz Kashmiri secretary JKSMA and Waseem Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
The races were officiated by Santosh Pal of Delhi, whereas the event was organised by Ski Mountaineering Association (India) in collaboration with JK Ski Mountaineering Association.
