4 injured after Sajad Lone’s workers attacked

Srinagar, Mar 1: Four workers of Sajad Lone’s People’s Conference (PC) were injured late this evening after they clashed with rival party National Conference (NC) workers at Batkoot village, 2 kilometers from Handwara town in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Reports said that the incident happened after former separatist leader and chief of the People’s Conference, Sajjad Gani Lone took oath as a Cabinet Minister in People Democratic Party (PDP)-Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu.
A top police officer told Excelsior that situation turned ugly in the area after PC workers were celebrating the Lone’s induction into the Cabinet, which pained the rival party workers in the area. “The minor untoward incidents were reported in many villages in the area, but the situation turned ugly at Batkoot, where atleast four PC workers were injured,” he said.
He said the victims received head injuries and one of them even got injuries in his jaws. “The injured were shifted to nearby Sub-District Hospital for treatment,” he said, adding, two of the injured were shifted to Srinagar’s tertiary hospital for further treatment due to the severe injuries.
Sources said that the four injured workers were identified as Nisar Ahmad Wani, Nazima Jan, Shabaz Ahmad Wani and Gulshana Akther.
Reports said that after this incident minor clashes broke out in different places in the area and even at many places stone pelting incidents were reported.
SHO Handwara Muzaffer Ahmad confirmed the incident and said that few people received minor injuries.
He, however, said that two of the injured were rushed to Srinagar hospital for further treatment.
Police said that an FIR Number 35/2015 under Section 307 was registered against the culprits.
