4 kgs of heroin recovered by BSF along IB in Amritsar

JAMMU: BSF troops recovered 4 kgs of heroin along the international border with Pakistan in Amritsar sector today.

BSF sentry on duty in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post (BoP) along IB at Uddhar Dhariwal in Amritsar sector heard sound of something throwing over the border fence around 0100 hours today, a BSF spokesman said.

The sentry immediately alerted the nearby sentries and HIT parties. During search of the area, BSF troops recovered 2 packets containing 4 kgs of contraband suspected to be heroin, lying on Indian side of the border fence, he said.

Keeping in view the vulnerability of the border due to heightened activities of smugglers and anti-national elements, Inspector General BSF (Punjab Frontier) has issued operational guidelines to all the sectors and battalions under Punjab Frontier for further strengthening the border domination and to remain extra alert so as to effectively check anti-national activities on the Punjab border with Pakistan.

Accordingly, BSF sector DIG (Amritsar) directed Field Commanders to maintain extra vigil on the border.

Tactical operations are also being mounted to foil the attempts of smugglers, he said. (AGENCIES)
