4 lakh man days generated under MGNREGA in Anantnag

ANANTNAG, Feb 25: The District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Muneer-ul-Islam chaired a meeting of Rural Development Department to review the implementation of various developmental schemes in the district.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved by the RD Department in the implementation of various developmental schemes like MGNREGA, IAY, watershed development, model villages and construction of Panchayat Ghars, the DDC said that the district has achieved remarkable growth by constructing sustainable tangible assets across all the 16 blocks of the district for the larger benefit of the population.
He said during the year 2015-16, the district has generated over 4 lakh man day against the target of 10.9 lakh man days, thereby becoming the second highest man-day generating district in the whole State. He further said that 74188 households have been provided job cards and out of them more than 45,000 have been engaged in different works.
The DDC directed the officers of RDD to dovetail schemes like MGNREGA convergence with departments like R&B, Horticulture, Agriculture, Social Welfare and Fisheries to formulate projects on a larger scale having high public importance.
He also asked ACD Anantnag to formulate a viable strategy to provide job opportunity to educated unemployed youth of the district in various schemes of RD Department.
ACD Anantnag informed the meeting that for the year 2015-16 under MGNREGA a sum of Rs. 50.34 crore has been allocated for the district out of which Rs. 41.18 crore has been already utilized for various developmental works.
On this the District Development Commissioner stressed upon the Block Development Officers to expedite the process of land identification for the Panchayat Ghars in their respective areas and directed the BDOs to prioritize the works like road connectivity to schools and villages, approach pathways, construction of flood bunds on vulnerable tributaries, construction of drinker water tanks, under MGNREGA.
The meeting was attended by ADDC Anantnag, ACD CPO, BDOs, besides other officers of the district.
