JAMMU, Aug 19: 45th KVS Regional Sports Meet of Skating and Chess under 17 and 19 years age category commenced today at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Gandhi Nagar.
The sports meet was declared open by AVLJ Rao, Deputy Commissioner, KVS, Jammu Region in presence of Principal of KV No 1 Gandhi Nagar TR Choudhary. Balloons were also released in the air with the declaration of the meet open by the chief guest.
In the meet, 190 students and 31 teacher-escorts from Kendriya Vidyalayas, situated in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and J&K are participating.
Vidyalaya students presented cultural items during the inaugural ceremony conducted on this occasion. Players of both the games took oath of sportsmanship.
Speaking on this occasion, AVLJ Rao said that it is the spirit of a good player to fight till the last score to win the game. He said that winning and losing are the two sides of the same coin. Good players always try to fight for success.
He added that the players should mould themselves to cope up with these values and prove themselves to be like alloy which has the quality of tolerance and endurance with iron like will to win.
First Round of Chess game was played between the players in the age groups of U-17 and U-19. Similarly, first round of Skating was also played in both the categories. In-line and Quards competitions in the events of Rink-1 and Rink-2 were played.
