JAMMU, May 29: First batch of Tawi Trekkers J&K comprising of 49 students including 23 girls of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, Jammu left today for Dharamshala to participate in the Silver Jubilee Himalayan Trekking Programme.
The group led by joint secretary of the Club, Sonam Sidharth also includes four teachers of the school namely Nishu Dubey, Bhumesh, Jyoti and Manika Sharma and Manik Slathia, a trained mountaineer of Ibex Adventure Club, Samba.
The group was flagged off by Administrator of the school, Vivek Chauhan from MA Stadium, Jammu in the presence of senior vice president and general secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K, Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria respectively.
A total of about 400 boys and girls in the age group of 10 to 14 years mainly from Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, Jammu, Shiksha Niketan group of schools, Jammu, Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal, Jammu, St. Xavier Senior Secondary School, Barnai, Jammu and R M Public School, Chowadi, Jammu  have so far enrolled themselves for the two Silver Jubilee Himalayan Programmes being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh and Moungri in Udhampur district of J&K, this year.
The purpose of these programmes is to initiate young boys and girls into outdoor life by offering them a low budget, well organized and properly supervised adventure activity and thus inculcate in them the spirit of adventure and love of nature.
