4th Women Science Congress concludes

JAMMU, Sept 3: A three days long 4th Women Science Congress in collaboration with J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology culminated in Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar.
In this Congress, eleven technical sessions were held in which 200 delegates participated. Besides this plenary talks and invited lectures were held by scientists, doctors, professors and academicians.
On the occasion, Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly was the chief guest.
Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College and Patron of Science Congress welcomed the guests. She stated that the Science Congress had really motivated the young budding scientists to accomplish higher goals.
Dr Anupama Gupta, Organizing Secretary read out the report of the Science Congress in which she discussed the contributions made by the luminaries and participants in and out of the State who made this event a great success.
Kavinder Gupta in his valedictory speech said that the more participation of women is required in science oriented streams and the girl students will definitely outshine their opponent sex in achieving excellence.
Science exhibition in which 10 schools of Jammu Province participated were also adjudged. DPS, Jammu declared first, Army Public School Jammu Cantt and KV No.1, Jammu shared second position whereas Government Model Higher Secondary School, Domana secured third position. Besides this two consolation prizes went in favour of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi and Air Force School, Jammu Cantt.
In Poster Presentation, Shikha Sharma from Bio-Technology got first position, Harsha Sharma from Chemical Sciences got second position, Nazia Bi and Ratika Sharma shared third position in Life Sciences and Physics and Electronics respectively. Consolation prize went in favour of Bilquessa Bhat from Bio-Technology.
A symposium was also held on “Cutting Edge Innovation by Women in Science and Technology” in which 12 students participated. First and second prizes were bagged by Afsaan Farooq and Bhavya Padha of GCW Gandhi Nagar and third prize was bagged by Sadiya Farooq of GDC, Thannamandi.
In the end, Prof Mala Basin presented formal vote of thanks.
