JAMMU, Oct 2: Police today arrested five bookies including their kingpin for running the racket of betting in the ongoing T20 World Cup being played in Sri Lanka from Talab Tillo.
On a tip off, police conducted raid in the house of Bachan Lal son of Durga Dass in Lane No. 11 at Talab Tillo and arrested him along with Gurmeet Singh and Nadeem of Bhagwati Nagar, Anil Kumar and Vinod Kumar of Talab Tillo.
Police said Bachan Lal and Nadeem, who was originally a resident of Uttar Pradesh were running the racket of betting on the T20 international matches of World Cup being played in Sri Lanka.
According to police, Nadeem was working as tailor master but was running the racket of betting. They were in touch with bookies at national and international level.
Police parties from Nowabad headed by SHO Jaipal Sharma arrested the bookies red handed while betting on the matches. A case has been registered against the bookies for further investigations.
