UDHAMPUR, Apr 19: Police today foiled an attempt of bovine smuggling and rescued five animals besides arresting a one of the accused smugglers.
Acting on reliable information, a Police team, led by SHO Chenani, Inspector Pardeep Gupta, laid a surprise naka on the National Highway at Moter Shed, this morning. The Police team intercepted two Tata Mobile vehicles, bearing registration number JK14B-9570, which were on way towards Kashmir.
During the thorough search, vehicles were found loaded with 5 bovine animals, which were rescued. Police also seized the vehicles and arrested one of the drivers while the other one managed to escape. The arrested driver has been identified as Shabir Khan of Thard in Udhampur.
A case under relevant sections has been registered in this connection at Police Station Chenani.
