Five MLAs of NC-Congress didn’t attend the dinner hosted at a City hotel here tonight by Ghulam Nabi Azad, the joint candidate of the two parties for Rajya Sabha elections.
They included Abdul Rashid Dar, Gulzar Ahmad Wani and Deldan Namgayal (all Congress), Shamima Firdous and Altaf Ahmad Wani (both National Conference).
On abstention of NC candidate, party provincial president Devender Rana said Firdous is on way to Jammu by road from Srinagar while Altaf Wani is sick and couldn’t make it to the dinner.
“Both of them will turn up for voting tomorrow,” he added.
However, there was no word from the Congress on abstention of three party MLAs from the dinner meeting.
No Independent candidate including CPM leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, who has extended support to Azad, attended the dinner. Hakim Yasin, whose support is also being claimed by the Congress, too was absent.
Former Chief Minister and NC working president Omar Abdullah attended the dinner along with other party MLAs.
Azad has now decided to hold breakfast meeting tomorrow at the same City hotel with NC-Congress MLAs from where they would proceed jointly to the Legislative Assembly complex to cast vote for Rajya Sabha elections.
