KATHUA, July 26: The sleuths of Excise Department along with cops from Police Station Lakhanpur seized 500 kilograms of poppy straw from a truck and arrested the driver.
As per police spokesman, the sleuths of Excise Department along with cops from Police Station Lakhanpur laid a naka and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02V7495.
During checking, police recovered 560 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle carrying fresh fruits and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Khalid Hussain, son of Anwar Hussain, a resident of Ujjan, Tehsil Darhal, District Rajouri.
A case under FIR Number 70/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Lakhanpur Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
The seizure and arrest was made by SHO Police Station Lakhanpur Inspector Sushil Sharma, Excise Inspectors Khalid Manhas and Dheeraj Kumar, Sub Inspectors Manvinderpal Singh, Tousif Sheikh and Kanwaljeet Shan and Excise Guards Rajesh Kumar and Mohammad Shakeel under the supervision of Excise and Taxation Officers Sandeep Gupta, Sourabh Sharma and Sajad Sofi, Deputy Excise Commissioner Toll Post Lakhanpur Vishesh Paul Mahajan, SSP Kathua Shridhar Patil and Excise Commissioner M Raju.
Excise Commissioner M Raju asked his officers to continue coordination with Police Department to eradicate the menace of drugs smuggling from the State.
