SRINAGAR:
About 500 Special Police Officers (SPOs) were today absorbed as constables and followers in police in recognition of their services in maintaining peace and order in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The absorption orders of 493 SPOs have been issued on the recommendations of Police Establishment Board (PEB) in recognition of their contribution in saving life and property of the people,” Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar said.
He said the SPOs demonstrated great valour and courage while safeguarding the people at different places in the State.
They have been rubbing their shoulders with regular police personnel for years and have performed in different fields of policing, he said adding the SPOs are playing an important role in maintaining peace and order in the State, ensuring dignity and honour of the people.
Among the absorbed SPOs, 205 are promoted as constable and 288 as followers on the basis of merit. They included 15 constable and five followers under sports category. (AGENCIES)
