KATHUA, May 20: Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology Choudhary Lal Singh today exhorted upon the students to actively participate in sports as it helps to channelize their energy in positive direction besides shaping their personality.
The Minister said this while addressing the sportspersons after the conclusion of 17, Inter Zone District Level Cricket Tournament at Kathua Sports Stadium.
Ch Lal Singh stressed that everyone should involve themselves in one or the other sports activity as it helps to develop not only physical strength but also increases mental power.
Stressing on the need of providing best sports infrastructure to the players, the Minister said that possibility of installing water sprinkling system at Kathua Sports stadium would be explored. He also directed DFO Kathua to plant trees along the circumference of the stadium.
Earlier batting first, Kathua set a target of 120 runs in 20 overs in reply Marheen successfully chased the target in 18th over of the game and won the match by 1 wicket. Daleep Kumar of Marheen was declared Man of the Match while as Kamalpreet Singh of Kathua was adjudged Man of the Series.
The tournament was organized by Department of Youth Services and sports.
Earlier, the Minister inspected the progress of road work from Gharti to Kasoori under Panchayat Thein of Basohli. The work on 1.5 Km road was initiated under 14 FC and will be executed by Rural Development Department.
During the inspection Ch Lal Singh directed the BDO to adhere to the quality norms besides meeting the target on time. He also urged the villagers to participate proactively in various development activities as their participation helps in better formulation as well as efficient execution of development works.
BDO Lakhanpur, AEE PWD, DFOs, DySP DAR Kathua besides DYSSO and ZPEOs accompanied the Minister during the visit.
Meanwhile, two days inter zonal district level tournament under 14years and under 17years boys and girls of district Poonch concluded today at sports stadium Poonch.
District Employment Officer Poonch, Shazia Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.
In Kabaddi, Poonch zone defeated Mandi zone by 11points, while Mandi Zone defeated Surankote by 2-0 in Volleyball and in Kho-Kho Surankote Zone and Madi Zone were declared joint winners.
In girls section, Kanuyion zone defeated Nangali zone in Kho-Kho, while Surankote zone defeated Poonch zone in Volleyball.
The tournament was organized by District Youth Services and Sports Officer Poonch, Ayaz Khan.
Inter Zone District Level competitions of District Jammu in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, volleyball and Wrestling Girls Under the age of 14 and 17 years concluded at HSS Domana and GHS Satwari Cantt.
The competitions were organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports District Jammu under the Chairmanship of Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Jammu and under the overall supervision of Sukhdev Raj Sharma, DYSSO Jammu.
Bharat Priya from Golobal Foundation Trust was the Chief Guest on the concluding function, who distributed winners and runners-up trophies among the teams in presence of Sandhara Malhotra, Principal HSS Domana and Ratan Singh Rana, SHO Domana.
At GHS Satwari Cantt, Raj Rani, Headmaster and ZPEO Tarseem Singh distributed medals and trophies among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion.
In Kabaddi Under-14 boys final, Dansal beat Miran Sahib zone by 30-21, while in Kabaddi Under-17 boys final, Akhnoor defeated Gandhi Nagar by 32-16.
In Kabaddi Under-17 girls final, Jammu Zone drubbed Akhnoor Zone by 32-18 points, while in Kabaddi under-14 girls final Bishnah Zone beat Akhnoor Zone by 35-20 points.
