UDHAMPUR, Dec 6: In a major crackdown on bovine smuggling, Udhampur Police successfully rescued 58 bovines and seized four vehicles used in the illegal activity.
A team from Police Station Chenani intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK19A-5934 and JK08N-4932 at Chenani naka point. As the vehicles were found to be transporting 16 bovines illegally, they were seized and two different cases registered at Police Station Chenani.
In another operation, a team of Police Station Majalta rescued 17 bovines being smuggled in a truck with registration number JK01AP-1871. The vehicle was seized, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the law.
A team of Police Post Roun seized an oil tanker with registration number JK02AD-7712, which was being used to smuggle nine bovines. The rescued animals were handed over to the appropriate authorities, and a case under FIR Number 486/2024 U/S 223 (a) BNS and 11 PCA Act was registered at Police Station Udhampur.
In another operation, a team of Police Station Panchari foiled an attempt to smuggle 16 bovines by foot. Two individuals, identified as Nazir Mohammad, son of Gashan, and Hafeez Mohammad, son of Shareef Mohammad, both residents of Upper Mongri, were arrested. A case under FIR Number 67/2024 was registered at Police Station Panchari.
