JAMMU, Mar 24: The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IITJMU) initiated the fifth edition of its annual inter-departmental sports festival ‘Pravaah-2023’ at its Jagti Campus, here today.
Chief guest for the event was Shubham Khajuria, a professional cricketer who had represented India U-19 and presently represents J&K in the Ranji Trophy. While speaking on the occasion, Khajuria shared his experiences and learnings with the students and underscored the significance of bouncing back in sports. Dr Manoj Singh Gaur, Director (IITJMU) felicitated Khajuria.
At the outset, the Rolling Trophy was unveiled, and the new contingent leaders were acknowledged. Subsequently, Dr Manoj Singh Gaur, Director welcomed all faculty members and student-athletes and stressed upon the importance of sports in the overall development of students.
He also appreciated the two significant additions made to this year’s festival: the inclusion of the Basic Sciences & Humanities team and the women’s futsal competition, which is expected to showcase the depth of talent within the institute.
Dr Shiva Sekar, Associate Dean, Sports Affairs (IITJMU); Arvind Kumar, Faculty Incharge (FIC), Intra IIT (IITJMU); and Paras, Students Sports Secretary (IITJMU) also addressed the gathering.
Today’s event key highlights included the music and dance performances by the students. Towards the end, Dr Manoj Singh Gaur and Shubham Khajuria lit the torch to mark the beginning of the event.
Pravaah’23 promises to be an exhilarating week-long event, bringing together students and faculty members to showcase their sportsmanship, teamwork, and talent.
