JAMMU, May 17: The 6th Fazil Abbas Memorial Volleyball Inter Department Tournament concluded in the Government Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk, here today
In the final match of the tournament, Er Arun Bangotra, Principal Government Polytechnic Jammu was chief guest and Er Inderjeet Singh, Workshop Superintendent was guest of honour.
The tournament is held every year in the memory of an Ex-student Late Fazil Abbas who lost his life in an unfortunate accident and he was a very good player of Volleyball besides being good in studies.
Principal appreciated the winners and runner-up teams.  He also motivated all the other teams to work hard next time to clinch the trophy. Others who were present on the occasion include Er. Manjeet Singh (HoD Electrical Engg), Er.Akhil Kumar (Lecturer-I), Ashok Verma (AA), Kamal Kumar (Demonstrator), Rakesh Khullar and Sandeep Kumar.
In the first Semi-final of the tournament, the Computer Engineering Department trounced the Electrical Department team by 2-1 in a hotly contested match 25-21, 23-25, 15-12. Raman Singh 4th Semester of Computer Science displayed a good show of skills in spiking along with Vishal Wadkalia. The Electrical team was winner of 5th edition of the tournament was headed by Akash Sharma, could not match the Computer Department and lost the semi-final.
In the second semi-final Mechanical Engineering Department under the Captaincy of Nitin Singh gave a good resistance to the Automobile team and lost by 2-1 with the score 25-21, 23-25 and 15-10.
In the final match, Computer Engineering Department beat the Automobile Engineering Department in a very close contest. The notable players of Automobile team Gagandeep Singh, Nakul Sharma & Vasu Choudhary gave a good fight to the Computer Engineering Department but the Spikers Raman Singh Sambyal, Vishal Wadkalia gave a good fight through their exemplary skills and tactics to prove their worth.
The matches were officiated under technical official Amit Sharma, a national level Volleyball referee along with (PET’s) Chamel Singh and Toshi Devi.
