6th J&K UT Karate C’ship commences

JAMMU, Dec 30: The 6th J&K UT Karate Championship 2024 for Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, and Senior categories commenced today at the Indoor Stadium, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The Championship, organized by the Amateur Karate Do Association of Jammu & Kashmir (AKAJK), has attracted over 500 participants from various districts across the Union Territory.
Sat Sharma, President of BJP J&K, was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, while Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition and Patron of AKAJK, attended as the guest of honour. Arun Prabhat Singh, former National Karate player and President of BJYM, also graced the event.
Shihan Ambedkar Gupta, President of AKAJK, delivered the welcome speech, while Deepa Sharma, Joint Secretary, presented the vote of thanks.
The competition saw strong performances from participants in the Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, and Senior categories. In the Sub-Junior Male Kumite, the following players emerged as top contenders: Vedaansh Arora won the 9 Years Male Kumite -25 Kg category, while Aditya Dubey claimed victory in the 9 Years Male Kumite -30 Kg. Rana Aadvik triumphed in the 9 Years Male Kumite -35 Kg, and Hanan Mohammad took first place in the 9 Years Male Kumite +35 Kg.
Other notable winners included Verma Dushyant in the 10 Years Male Kumite -30 Kg, Moksh Varam in the 7 Years Male Kumite -20 Kg, and Gul Mohd Najar Yasir in the 10 Years Male Kumite +40 Kg. Madhav Sharma and Sadiq Waza Mohd were victorious in the 11 Years Male Kumite -30 Kg and -35 Kg categories, respectively, while Suhansh Verma clinched first place in the 11 Years Male Kumite -40 Kg.
The competition also saw impressive performances from female participants. Gupta Divyana secured the top spot in the 7 Years Female Kumite -25 Kg, while Soni Aishvi won in the 7 Years Female Kumite +25 Kg. Ayeza Kohli claimed victory in the 8 Years Female Kumite -25 Kg, and Kaashvi Sajni excelled in the 8 Years Female Kumite -30 Kg category.
In the Under 7 Years categories, Tamahira Singh and Atharv Sawhney emerged as champions in the Female and Male Kumite, respectively.
