6th Nat’l SnowShoe C’ship inaugurated at Gulmarg

SRINAGAR, Mar 19: Sixth National SnowShoe Championship, organised by J&K SnowShoe Association in collaboration with Directorate of Tourism Kashmir inaugurated by CEO Gulmarg Ghulam Zargar Jeelani in presence of Assistant Director Tourism Dr Javid Ur Rehman at Gulmarg, today.
Assistant Director Tourism Kashmir, Zeeshan Khan, SnowShoe Federation of India (SSFI) Mir Mudassir, J&K SnowShoe Association, Tariq Zargar, WGAJK president Mohammad Abbas Wani and SHO Gulmarg along with others present during the event.
On the inaugural day, long distance events in senior male, female and junior boys and girls were held today.
The chief guest said that it is great to see such a mega event being held in Gulmarg. “SnowShoe is a new concept in India and Kashmir and to see its National event being held is a new milestone. I welcome all of you and wish you best of luck,” Jeelani said.
Assistant Director Tourism Dr Javid-Ur-Rehman said that a new dimension has been added to the winter sports with the conduct of SnowShoe activity; while SSFI president gave a brief about the SnowShoe background and the event and also said that the activity is getting popular in India.
Uttarakhand dominated the first day of the competition, while J&K bagged three medals and in senior men category, Vishal of Maharashtra finished first and Sandeep Singh of Punjab stood 2nd and Muzamil Hussain of J&K claimed third place.
In senior women category, Priya of Uttarakhand finished first, while Dhanalakshmi of Karnataka remained 2nd and Prince Kumari of ITBP secured 3rd place, besides in junior boys, top three places were won byAyush Dimri, Adil Fayaz of J&K and Ayush Bhat of Uttarakhand respectively and in junior girls, J&K’s Sara bagged gold medal, while Trisha of Pondicherry and Sapna of Uttarakhand finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
