SRINAGAR, Sept 23: The 7kms Swimathon Challenge – 2024, organized by the Swim N Survive Society Kashmir in collaboration with the Underwater Sports Association of J&K, has concluded with great success.
This significant event featured 16 experienced long-distance swimmers, including one female participant, who showcased exceptional endurance and skill.
The challenge was inaugurated by Shakeel Ahmad, president of the Swim N Survive Society – Kashmir, alongside Yasir Makhdoomi, the event’s secretary and in-charge. The swimmers embarked on their 7km journey from the Nigeen Water Sports Centre, completing seven laps towards the houseboat area. Their progress was meticulously tracked using Garmin Fenix 7 devices, with volunteers Zaid Bin Riyaz and Musa Shakeel ensuring the event ran smoothly.
Notable participants included renowned swimmers and adventure sports enthusiasts like Riyaz Wani, Junaid Sofi, Mohd Daaib Bhat, Azaan Bashir Wani and national fin swimming medalist Owais Rashid. The event also highlighted a heart-warming moment as Javaid Ahmad swam alongside his son, showcasing a beautiful bond through sports.
Fatima Imran, the sole female participant, received immense admiration for her determination, completing the swimathon while her parents cheered her on. At the closing ceremony, all participants were awarded certificates of participation and special finisher gifts to commemorate their achievements.
Representatives from M/s Noor Ud Din Showkat Ahmad, the event’s sponsors, attended the valedictory event, where they commended the swimmers for their dedication and resilience. They pledged support for future events, underscoring the importance of promoting adventure and endurance sports in the region.
Yasir Makhdoomi expressed gratitude to the sponsors, emphasizing the vital role of such support in fostering a sports culture and encouraging participation in challenging physical activities, especially in aquatic sports.
