70th birth anniversary of Dikung Skaybgon celebrated

LEH, July 20: The 70th birth anniversary of Dikung Skaybgon Chesang Kunchok Tenzin Kunzang Thinlay Lundup was celebrated today at Kargyam Barma.
The function was organized by Schcukul Gonpa and Nambardars of Schchukul, Chushul, Man, Merak, Phobrang, Durbok, Tangtde, Fulak and Argyam villages.
Skyabje Togldan Rinpochey was the chief guest and MP, Thupstan Tsewang and Minister Cooperative, J&K Chhering Dorjey were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Minister Cooperative called the day very auspicious and significant for the inhabitants of Kargyam Sato valley. He said that Kargyam area was not notified as tourist destination along with Pangong Lake for the reason of not having infrastructural facilities in the area by concern authority at that time.
MP, Ladakh also emphasized on the need to include Kargyam area in the tourist map and ensure its implementation by taking it up with the concern authorities at centre level. To approve the peaks for adventure tourism, Thupstan Chhewang assured to take up the matter with Indian Mountaineering Federation.
Councilor Chuchul, Namgial Phuntsok demanded opening of Lalok area for tourism including Man-Merak, Chuchul and Tsaga.
The main attraction of the festival was the rabo demonstration, handicrafts, horse race and archery.
On the occasion, the 8th edition of the magazine, “The melody of Ladakh” published by Ladakh Dayangs was released on the occasion. 20 foreigners with special permits also participated in the festival.
