SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Mushtaq Ahmad, Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, J&K State Sports Council and Basharat Ali, Assistant Director, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kashmir inaugurated the 7th State Rugby 7’s Tournament 2014 at University ground, here today.
As many as 10 districts are participating in this event and around 500 players and officials in the age group of sub junior, junior, Under-20 and senior boys and girls, men and women.
About 150 matches are to be played up to November 10, 2014.
Speaking on the occasion, Sports Officer said sports activities play an important role in the life of the people, while Basharat Ali said that she was surprised to see the mushrooms of boys & girls playing rugby on the field.
Irfan Aziz Botta, general secretary, J&K State Rugby Association, Mufti Hamid, member J&K Rugby Association and other dignitaries were present among others on the occasion.
In sub junior boys, Srinagar Bisons emerged winners, while Green Valley Institute remained runners-up and Rugby Club Srinagar claimed third position.
In junior boys, District Bandipora emerged winners, District Ganderbal won the runners-up trophy, while Dark Wolves RFC got third position.
The Championship is being sponsored by J&K Rugby Association and organized under the banner of J&K State Sports Council and J&K Olympic Association.
