SRINAGAR, Nov 11: In a historic achievement, seven-and-half-year old girl, Tajamul Islam, from Bandipora district of North Kashmir becomes youngest ever World Kickboxing Champion by winning gold medal at Italy. She defeated her rival from United States.
Master Fasil, the coach of Tajamul, told Excelsior that World Kickboxing Champio-nship was held at Italy from November 4 to November 10. He said the championship is held under several categories including senior, junior and sub-junior.
“Tajamul was participating in the championship’s sub-junior category. She won six games and on November 9, she defeated her rival from Unites States by winning the gold and become world’s youngest Kickboxing champion,” Master Fasil said. He said she is a first girl from India to achieve the feat.
Master Fasil added that it is the proud moment for people of Kashmir and Bandipora in particular. “Under sub-junior category, there are players who are in the age groups of 10, 12 and 14 etc. but she was below 8 and this is remarkable,” he said, adding that no one has ever won the gold in sub-junior category.

A source close to Tajamul said she faced lot of difficulties back home before heading to Italy in terms of passport and other formalities but later Army came forward for her help and facilitated her visit.
