SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Police have arrested 800 people from Central Kashmir and have booked 80 of them under Public Safety Act (PSA) for creating trouble in Kashmir.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Central Kashmir, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, told reporters here that in Central Kashmir 800 people were arrested on charges of stone pelting and resorting to violence. He said that 80 of these were booked under the PSA.
The DIG said that these miscreants were wanted by Police in various incidents of violence. “We arrested them during raids on their homes at night and during the day when they were travelling”, he said.
Bhat said that 15 miscreants who set ablaze 13 vehicles in Central Kashmir have been arrested and 7 others who are also identified are wanted by the Police. “During recent law and order problems, miscreants set ablaze vehicles and 13 cases have been registered, 12 in Srinagar and one in Budgam.
“In this two cars, 3 Sumos, two autos, 5 two wheelers and a load carrier were torched. We have identified 22 miscreants who set these vehicles ablaze. We have arrested 15 accused and 7 others are wanted by police in these cases. Out of these 4-5 are those against whom there are already several FIRs registered. These miscreants have been paraded before the Magistrate and those whose vehicles were torched identified them. There are some chronic stone pelters in these who are involved in stone pelting since 2010”, he said.
The DIG while sharing details said that on October 17, two Sumos (bearing No. JK09-9209 and No. JK05-5863) were set ablaze at Fruit Mandi Parimpora in Srinagar. He said a case (FIR No. 231/2016) was registered in Police Station Parimpora and three accused – Mohsin Nisar Bhat resident of Parimpora, Mohsin Zahoor Mir resident of Parimpora and Zaid alias Raju son of Mohammad Sikander Ganai of Gulbagh, Parimpora were found involved in this offence and three of them have been arrested while as one is still absconding.
Bhat said one Motorcycle (bearing No. JK01F-4307) was set ablaze at Awantabhavan Soura on September 9 and a case (FIR No. 106/2016) was registered in Police Station Soura and one accused Faizan Afzal Beigh son of Mohammad Afzal Beigh of Awanta Bhavan was arrested.
The DIG said that on August 7, a load carrier was set ablaze at Batmaloo and a case (FIR No. 104/2016) was registered in police station Batmaloo and one accused Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Rashid of Firdous Abad was arrested.
Bhat said that on September 23, a motorcycle (bearing No. JK22-9362) was set ablaze at Batmaloo. A case (FIR No. 124/2016) was registered in Police Station Batmaloo and two accused persons, Showkat Ahmad of Firdous Abad Batmaloo and Zahid Ahmad Sheikh son of Gulzaar Ahmad Sheikh of Danderkhah have been arrested.
The DIG said that on August 15, one Road Roller was set ablaze at Rek Chowk Batmaloo. A case (FIR No. 108/2016) was registered in Police Station Batmaloo and accused Altaf Ahmad Dar of Firdous Abad Batmaloo has been arrested.
Bhat said On September 21, one motorcycle (bearing No. JK01H-3807) was set ablaze at Nawab Bazar area of Srinagar. “A case (FIR No. 87/2016) was registered in Police Station MR Gunj and three accused – Ishfaq Nabi Sheikh son of Ghulam Nabi of Kaksathoo, Nawab Bazar, Junaid Ahmad of MR Gunj and Aqib Ahmad of MR Gunj have been arrested”, he said.
DIG said that on October 4, one auto bearing No. JK01X-4429 was set ablaze at Saida Kadal. “A case (FIR No. 102/2016) was registered in Police Station Rainawari and accused Shadab Hassan Godyari has been arrested”, he said.
Bhat said that on October 4, one auto bearing No. JK01H-7913 was set ablaze at Baba Demb Khanyar. A case (FIR No. 34/2016) was registered in Police Station Kralkhud.
DIG said on October 9, one scooty was set ablaze at Gojwara Chowk. “A case (FIR No. 107/2016) was registered in Police Station Nowhatta and two accused persons Sarfaraz Ahmad Sheikh, Ramiz Ahmad Matoo son of Mohammad Yaseen of Gojwara have been arrested while as four are absconding”, he said.
Bhat said on August 25, a Sumo (bearing No. JK01L-8415) was set ablaze at Nowshera, Soura. “A case (FIR No. 99/2016) was registered in P/S Soura”, he said.
“On 09-07-2016, one motorcycle bearing No. JK01V-8609 was set ablaze at Nund Reshi Colony Bemina. Case FIR No. 86/2016 was registered in P/S Batmaloo.
On 10-10 -2016, two cars bearing NoJK01AB 0103(Swift) and JK01N 6690 (Estilo)  were set ablaze at  Goripora,Hyderpora. Case FIR No. 307/2016 was registered in P/S Budgam”, he said.
In the meantime, the shutdown paralysed life in Kashmir for 108th consecutive day today.
Security forces personnel were deployed in five Police Station areas of Srinagar’s Old City – MR Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Rainawari and Khanyar-since early morning. There was, however, civilian movement without any disruption in all these areas. The areas like Habba Kadal and Maisuma were also under thick security blanket to prevent violence.
In Civil Line and uptown areas of Srinagar, extra-ordinary movement of private transport and pedestrians was once again seen since early morning but shops, commercial establishments and educational institutes were closed. The vendors had, however, set up their stalls at Batmaloo, Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Sonwar, Jehangir Chowk, Exhibition Crossing and Jawahar Nagar and security forces were deployed at sensitive areas in strength.
In the evening, the markets across Srinagar opened and witnessed huge rush of people. Traffic jam were also witnessed at many places in the Civil Line areas.
Police said that miscreants in order to impose shutdown lobbed a petrol bomb on a moving Tipper near Khanapora,Baramulla at around 8.30 p.m. “Tipper driver Irshad Ahmad Mir S/o Ashraf Mir R/o Uran Buwa,Boniyar has got injured. He has sustained critical burn injuries. He has been referred to SMHS Srinagar for treatment”, police said.
A case (FIR no 340/2016 Police Station Baramulla  under Sections 147/148/323/307/427 RPC  Attempt to murder) has been registered  and manhunt launched to nab the miscreants.
