9 LeT cadres named in NIA charge sheet in Udhampur terror case

JAMMU, Jan 28: Nine Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) cadres were today named in a charge sheet filed by National Investigation Agency in last year’s terror attack case in Udhampur.
Two Pakistani terrorists of LeT had on August 5 attacked a BSF convoy in Udhampur. The attack resulted in the death of two BSF personnel while 13 others were injured. The case was subsequently transferred to NIA for investigation.
The charge sheet has been filed against the accused Mohammed Naveed alias Usman, Khursheed Ahmed Bhat alias Khursheed Alam Bhat, Showkat Ahmed Bhat, Shabzar Ahmed Bhat, Fayaz Ahmed Ittoo alias Fayaz Khar, Khursheed Ahmed Ittu, Fayaz Ahmed Ashwar alias Setha, Ashiq Hussain Bhat alias Ubaida and Abu Noman.
Of the accused, Abu Noman was killed in retaliatory action by the security forces upon the commencement of the instant terrorist attack, while Fayaz Ahmed Ashwar and Ashiq Hussain Bhat are absconding.
The investigation has not only unearthed the specific conspiracy behind the terrorist attack in Udhampur but also the larger conspiracy of the LeT through which Mohammed Naveed alias Usman and his associates were infiltrated and sheltered in Indian territory for committing terrorist acts.
The charge sheet has been filed under various provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Foreigners’ Act and the Explosive Act and Explosives Substances Act.
Special PP Baldev Singh Manhas with Chief Investigating Officer Atul Goel presented challan in the court of Special Judge NIA Kishore Kumar, who observed that since the powers under NIA Act has not been entrusted so the effective order cannot be passed. Accordingly, he fixed February 12 for further proceedings and sent the accused back to jail.
