REASI, July 22: Inhabitants of more than half a dozen villages and adjoining areas are suffering because of failure of PMGSY Department to complete Gund Morh to Upper Judda road in tehsil Thuroo of Reasi district.
Work on this PMGSY road was started in 2012 and it was scheduled to be completed by 2016 with an approximate cost of Rs 22 crores. However, even after more than four years since the deadline for completion and expenditure of entire sanctioned amount, only 40 percent work has been finished so far.
Despite receiving the payment, the Contractor has left the job after earth cutting work only, with the result that inhabitants of Chundhar, Sulkh, Pattian, Sugcha, Chillad, Hunder, Judda and adjoining areas are suffering because of no road connectivity to them with Tehsil headquarter.
The condition of existing road can be gauged from the fact that more than ten accidents have taken place on this stretch resulting into six casualties. During rainy season, even walking on this road is difficult.
Locals alleged that the contractor was hand in glove with the concerned department officials, who never visited the site even once since last year.
The road work has been lying completely stopped for the last two years for the reasons best known to department while the villagers are continuously suffering. No action was taken by the PMGSY Department despite repeated pleas by the locals, who have now appealed the Lt Governor to personally look into the matter and address their grievance.
