NEW DELHI, Aug 15: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday greeted India on the 74th Independence Day and said both countries are ”global powers and good friends” and will continue to work together in many areas, including defence and counter-terrorism.
In his message, Mr Pompeo described both India and the US as “great pluralist democracies, global powers, and good friends” and said that over the years Indo-US relationship had grown into a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership involving ever closer cooperation on issues vital to global security and prosperity in the 21st century.
He said India and the US would work together in diverse areas including on defense, counter-terrorism, trade, investment, energy, the environment, healthcare, agriculture, science and technology, education, space and maritime security.
“The United States and India have shared close bonds of friendship and democratic traditions since India gained its independence,” he said.
