BJP OBC Morcha demands unique reservation policy

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Aug 19: Braham Jyot Satti, president BJP OBC Morcha JK-UT today demanded that the reservation policy, provisions and benefits for OBCs should be directly implemented in Jammu Kashmir as in other States and UTs of the country.
Talking to reporters here, today he disclosed various issues being faced by OBCs in J&K which he said were earlier brought in the notice of Justice GD Sharma, Chairman of J&K Socially, Educationally Backward Classes Commission.
Braham Jyot Satti was also accompanied by his team comprising Rajkumar Tarkhan, Ravi Verma general secretaries BJP OBC Morcha JK-UT and Sunil Prajapati publicity secretary of the Morcha during the press conference as well as in the meeting which followed it.
Braham Jyot, said that after abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory and it is directly governed by Central Government. The nomenclature should be changed from OSC to OBC in Jammu Kashmir with a suitable amendment in Reservation Act. 2004, he added.
He also said that eligibility criteria for getting OBC certificate in Jammu Kashmir should be kept under Government of India norms because there is lot of confusion and difference between the eligibility criteria set by Reservation Act 2004 based on A.S Anand Committee Report and eligibility criteria set by Government of India based on Mandal Commission. Due to this difference and confusion thousands of OBCs from Jammu Kashmir are deprived of Central reservation quota. This will pave way for issuing single OBC certificate for instead of two different OBC certificates.
He also said that reservation of OBCs in Jammu Kashmir should be on the basis of Mandal Commission because Mandal Commission has provisioned the reservation policy in India and it is accepted by every State and UT except Jammu Kashmir. So Reservation of OBC category should be increased because according to census reports of 1931, the population of OBCs in Jammu Kashmir was approximate 35%, but the community is just demanding 27% as in other states/UTs.
He said that an extra column for OBC category should be included in next upcoming census.
Renewable process of OBC Certificate should be simplified and only income certificate should be obtained at the time of renewable.
He said that like one nation, one flag , one Constitution , one ration card, one reservation policy should be implemented in Jammu Kashmir as soon as possible.
He ensured OBC community that their pending demands will be fulfilled as early as possible so that people belonging to OBC category could lead a better life and provide good education to their children .
